Mozilla Exec calls Apple “Duopolistic”

Just as I thought, Mozilla’s Chief Operational Officer John Lilly called out Apple for their launch of Safari on Windows.  Specifically using Steve Jobs’ slide of the future showing only IE and Safari with marketshare, Lilly attacked Jobs and Apple saying “This worldview...betrays (Apple's) thinking: it's out-of-date, corporate-controlled, duopoly-oriented...It's not good for the Web. Which is sort of moot, I think, because I don't think this two-party world will really come to be."

Actually, I believe it’s because Jobs doesn’t want to make too many waves with the Redmond juggernaut, wounded as though it may be.  Should MS turn it’s full attention to Apple, the war would be full of more FUD and mud-slinging than you see from Apple and PC faithful on the online forums.

However, Jobs’ ultimate goal, in my opinion, is to give the Windows users another “glass of ice water in hell,” a taste of the Mac experience so they will go buy a Mac.  I’ve used a Mac since System 7.6, and Windows since 3.1.  Having experienced the growth of both operating systems from both a user and programmer standpoint, I’d have to say a little variety is not a bad thing.
