Keynote and more

Wow.  Over 5000 people this year.  That’s a new record, according to Steve Jobs.

The keynote was so-so.  No new hardware was announced, which was a bummer.  There was lots of Leopard, which was to be expected.  The iPhone development environment was revealed to be a Web 2.0/AJAX page running on one’s own web server, which is lame.  But the big announcement was Safari 3.0 beta on Windows.  This is yet another “glass of water for the residents of hell” (as Steve put it a few weeks ago about iTunes).  It appears Apple’s strategy is to give Windows users a taste of the Mac user experience so they will migrate over to OS X fully.

There were more sessions after lunch, most of which I can’t go into detail about due to NDA.  After the day’s sessions we went to Foley’s Irish pub, where the waitress was  an angel for splitting the tickets of 10 people individually.

As usual there are plenty of odd people here (what do you expect with a bunch of geeks).  I’ll refer you to the Surly Curmudgeon for color commentary, as he’s quite good at it.
